Welcome to the Poet Farmer—where we pay attention like poets, and we eat like farmers.
Over the past six months I’ve found myself writing more and more about farming and how that intersects with my desire to connect with, and care for my community. This new angle will allow me to prioritize that more. I’m also going to be adding some produce content to help bridge the knowledge gaps that are sometimes inhibiting for folks when they approach fresh produce, and with that, I’ll be adding some recipes as well. Food has been a first-love for me ever since I first started blogging, and I’m excited to be circling back to that a bit more publicly here.
Being a regenerative market garden farmer sometimes leads me to straddling some interesting lines—but I truly believe that questions, wonder, and paying attention are the great bridge builders. A beautiful plate of food can help. A longer table might just do the trick.
I call myself a Poet Farmer, because poetry is not only something I write, it is my way of seeing the world. I am always following the threads of connection between the science I learn about plants, growing techniques, holistic pest and weed management, and the spiritual side of things. I want to continue to write about these down-in-the-dirt dichotomies in a way that is not didactic, but that evokes wonder and curiosity for you as you continue on your own journey. I will still write about rest, because nature always writes about rest—and as a mother of five with two very intense jobs, rest is still essential—it just isn’t the primary focus of my writing anymore, and that’s okay.
But mostly you can expect the same; essays about what is mine to do, poems about the way the world aches and how on earth are we supposed to find the light to follow through it. And in addition, you’ll now also get some recipes that don’t make you feel overwhelmed and shamed, but that lead you into the joy of eating seasonally and deliciously. (You’ll find these under The Rainbow Kitchen tab in the navigation bar.)
The Poet Farmer: from the blisters on my fingers, to the blisters on your heart—poetry, personal essays, and recipes that call you to the sacred act of paying attention.
