This is a beautiful reflection on generosity. It reminds me of a verse I love from Zechariah: "don't despise the day of small things." I recently wrote about my reverence for small things. I also love Kimmerer's strawberry story and used it in one of my essays. Thank you for your words and your grace-filled practices.
What is mine to give? We’ve done the planting. God has done the watering this week. The miracle is happening! Mine to give, soon. Mine to give everyday..love, value, prayer, ears to hear, eyes to see. Lettuce leaves and spinach leaves with my neighbor, flowers with a recovering friend. Thank you for the reminder that food banks can use produce. And as always, thank you, for your heart and sharing your life.
"When you give it away, you’ll find there’s more than enough." I haven't thought of those words in a decade or more. When I first started gardening, my dad said them to me. A farmer during the depression, the market garden was always planted with more than they knew they would use themselves. When they were fortunate enough to have excess, it was given to neighbours, drifters, the church. I continue to plant more than I know I will need. And the first tomato, cucumber, head of lettuce is always given away.
This is the way. This is us.
I am only one person, and I cannot do everything—but I can do something. 👏👏👏

Kimmerer has been SUCH an inspiration to me. I love that you used that story in one of your essays too! Thank you so much for reading.

This is so beautiful Deb. 😭 Thank you for sharing. What a lovely thing for your Dad to have instilled in you, and such good wisdom for all of us.
